Sewer Connection Requirements

The following requirements shall apply to sewer connections for single family dwellings: 1. Drainage piping shall be A.B.S. (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), P.V.C. (polyvinyl chloride) Schedule 40 or standard wall, extra strength V.C.P. (vitrified clay pipe) or other approved material. 2. Size shall be 3" minimum. 3. At the point of connection of sewer lateral to private sewer, a 4" riser and cleanout to grade at the property line is required and additional cleanouts every 100 feet for lines over 100 feet long. An additional cleanout shall be provided in a horizontal line for each aggregate change in direction exceeding 135 degrees. Each cleanout shall be installed so that it opens to allow cleaning in the direction of flow of the soil or waste or at right angles. 4. Horizontal drainage piping shall be run in practical alignment and a uniform slope of not less than ¼" per foot. 5. All sewer connections and new lines, and abandoned systems shall be inspected and approved. Existing sewage facilities shall be abandoned by removal of tank access covers, pump both compartments of septic tank, fill with earth, sand or other approved material. Prior to filling, abandoned sewage facilities shall not extend above the top of the tank, until inspected by a City building inspector. 6. Note: As-built plans of Sewer Connection and Certificate of Septic Tank Pumping are required prior to inspection. As-built plans shall be limited to 81/2" x 11" paper. 7.
